Max Fields

Beginning Ballet/Pre-Ballet/Elementary I

Max Fields (they/them) is a dancer, choreographer, dance educator, and dance anthropologist studying for their BFA in Dance and a BA in Cultural Anthropology at Colorado State University (CSU). Max trained at Canyon Concert Ballet (CCB) from age 9 to 18, attending intensives at Snowy Range Dance Festival, Ballet Society of Colorado Springs, and Evergreen City Ballet. While at CCB, Max studied ballet, contemporary dance, tap, swing dance, improvisation, character, pointe, and modern. They performed in CCB’s Youth Ensemble and danced in the The Nutcracker with the professional company for eight consecutive years in various roles, such as the Lead Angel, a Russian dancer, and Clara’s friend. Their other productions with CCB’s professional company include Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and the 35th Anniversary Gala. At CCB, Max also trained as a Level 4 Vaganova ballet instructor under Margaret Willingham.

Max was accepted to CSU’s dance program in 2024, and has been a recipient of the School of Dance, Music, and Theatre’s Performing Arts Scholarship in Dance for the past two seasons. While at CSU, Max has performed in work by Grace Gallagher, Madeline Harvey, and Lisa Morgan. In addition, they choreographed The Webs We Weave, a five-dancer piece that was featured in the Fall 2025 Dance Concert and in the newspaper the Rocky Mountain Collegian. While at CSU, Max has taught multiple community classes and workshops for youth and adults, and completed an internship at the Education in Motion Professional Development Seminar, which helps teachers incorporate movement into public education settings. Max also performed at the Graduate Student Showcase in November 2025 in collaboration with PhD student Cassandra Puletapuai; their presentation, Dance of the Disciplines: Where Art, Science, and Story Transcends won the award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship – Excellence in Creativity from the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Max loves to work with students of all ages, and their teaching focuses on inclusivity, technique fundamentals, and compassion for the self and others. They love helping dancers discover their joy in movement and develop their voices while building strong foundations in technical performance and artistry.
