Laurel Johnson began dancing as a way to avoid foot surgery as a toddler, and since starting she has never stopped! Laurel took her very first class at the recreation center in her hometown, and has now been teaching young dancers at the Fort Collins recreation center since 2018 through Northern Colorado Petite Ballerinas. Growing up dancing in downtown Loveland, Laurel was introduced to styles of dance including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and contemporary. In 2017, she had the opportunity to perform and teach ballet in Harpenden, England with Lighthouse Dance. In 2016, she was introduced to aerial dance, and since then has trained and performed with Live Beyond Limit and Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance Student Company as the lead role in Peter Pan. Laurel went on to earn her Aerial Yoga Teaching Certificate from Loveland Community Yoga and has taught ages teenage through adult the joy of aerial.

Laurel graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Drawing and a minor in Dance, and is planning on returning to UNC in the fall of 2021 to begin earning her Master’s Degree in Dance Education. Laurel has enjoyed performing in three of UNC’s

dance shows including Miranda’s Nightmare as a willie, Spring Dance Concert, and Fall Dance 2019, and was thrilled to introduce aerial dance to the students of Greeley Central High School for their production of Barnum

After beginning her training at Front Range Classical Ballet Academy in 2017, Laurel has had the honor to perform in Moonbeam Rider, The Nutcracker, and as a soloist in the Dying Swan variation. Now, Laurel is excited to be an apprentice for FRCBC, and enjoys teaching petite ballet classes with FRCBA and Northern Colorado Petite Ballerinas!
